The Espalar universal starter kit is designed to get you underway with your first espalier project and comes with wire cutters, hex driver and rivet gun for tensioning the wires.
You get all the components to build either a 4 wire horizontal espalier panel or a diamond pattern espalier panel.
The horizontal espalier is ideal for heavy loading fruit trees such as apples and pears as well as grape vines and climbing vegetables. The diamond espalier is great for ornamental vines such as star jasmine and the like.
Hex wood screws are provided with this kit however if you are fixing to brick/concrete substrate or tin/metal fences we sell masonry screws and multi screw packs separately. Click on our "Components and Wire" tab for more detail.

Different Layouts
Surface Layouts
These kits are designed to attach directly to existing walls or fences. You can choose from two layout styles depending on your space and aesthetic preference:
- Traditional Horizontal Layout
The classic espalier look – perfect for fruit trees like apples or pears. Wires run parallel to the ground to support structured growth and easy harvesting. - Diamond Pattern Layout
A striking, decorative option ideal for ornamental vines like star jasmine or clematis. Creates a stunning focal point on plain walls or fences.
Both layouts offer strong support and a professional finish – it's just a matter of style and plant type.
Post Layouts
Post mounted kits give you full control to build a free-standing structure anywhere in your garden. Layouts are more flexible, depending on your frame.
